So What is this about?

The Mathematics Excellence Foundation is an initiative of leading educators and business executives who share a desire to improve the quality of mathematics instruction in America’s middle Schools and high Schools. Because published empirical research is proving the effectiveness of utilizing instructional technology in the mathematics classroom, the Foundation is providing grants to individual schools and districts to offset the cost of acquiring proven technology-based programs. Grant applications can be obtained through any company in partnership with the Mathematics Excellence Foundation.

All funding is provided by individuals and corporations. In order to assist as many schools as possible, the Foundation's awards provide only partial assistance. The remaining program costs are to be funded by 1) the receiving institution (school or district), 2) government or institutional funding, or 3) other private grant-making organizations.

Requirements

Grants will only be made for the acquisition of instructional technology produced by companies that have entered into an agreement with the Mathematics Excellence Foundation.

Grant applications may be obtained through any company in partnership with the Mathematics Excellence Foundation.

Participation

The Mathematics Excellence Foundation offers four different types of grants.

1) Implementation Grant-This grant provides 25%-50% of the cost of selected program(s). Twenty-five percent of the cost is typically given for initial implementation grants, but awards may be given for up to 50% if the technology implementation has proven to be effective and expanded implementation is desirable.

2) Technology Grant-Provides up to $250 per classroom for hardware required for the implementation of approved technology-based instructional programs.

3) Professional Development Grant provides 25%-80% of the cost of appropriate training to assure effective implementation of instructional technology. Awards are based on need and number of teachers to be trained.

4) Research Grant provides up to 75% of the cost of the initial implementation of selected programs. Grantee (school or district) must present a longitudinal study proposal, utilize an empirical research design to measure achievement gains, and provide summative data to the Mathematics Excellence Foundation.
